Poetry is...
Poetry is…
Poetry is my life. I love creating poems from the heart, that resonate with me. I love getting up early every morning, going to the room in which I create my poetic art, lighting a candle, and sitting watching the day emerge from the darkness. Taking my fountain pen and watching words fall from my head, mix with the ink, and emerge on the page, in the form of a poem, from the darkness that is my early morning mind.
I love reading poetry, drinking in the words and thoughts of other poets. Reading the poetry of others inspires me. There are times when I open a book of poetry, and randomly choose a poem to read. Sometimes I read it and think this doesn’t resonate, I don’t feel what they are trying to convey. It doesn’t make sense to me. Then I read it again and something starts to happen in my brain and my heart. The words that felt alien, distant, discordant, start to take on meaning and inspire me to write, to draw, to think about life differently. This is why I love poetry. It allows you to take what you feel and convert it into words, and though, what we feel can sometimes be a confused mess made up of a thousand thoughts inside our heads, when those words arrive on the page they are like DNA, individual to us, but beautifully formed, and full of meaning. There are times when we have to dig deep for the meaning, but that’s what can make poetry even more spectacular, the challenge of getting to know it and when we do, forming friendships that last forever.
I love poetry and want to continue writing it, and at some point, I may bring all of my work together, and choose to share a collection of my thoughts and feelings on life with others, and who knows maybe something I write will inspire, will be the medicine someone else needs, the prescription that brings healing to their soul. Makes them fall in love with poetry.
